Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Fiberglass Layup Helper to join our manufacturing team in Chicago, IL. In this hands-on role, you will be crucial in the production of high-quality fiberglass components for our boats and potentially other powersport vehicles. This position requires strong adherence to safety protocols, including consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and the ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment. If you have a good work ethic, are eager to learn, and can handle physical tasks, we encourage you to apply. Experience with fiberglass or in a manufacturing setting is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare molds for fiberglass application, including cleaning and applying release agents.
  • Cut and lay fiberglass materials (mat, woven roving, cloth) into molds according to specifications.
  • Apply resin and catalysts using rollers, brushes, or spray equipment to saturate fiberglass.
  • Remove air bubbles and ensure proper saturation for a smooth, defect-free laminate.
  • Trim excess fiberglass material from parts using hand tools or grinders.
  • Perform minor repairs and touch-ups on fiberglass components.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to 5S principles.
  • Operate various hand tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Assist senior technicians and team members with various tasks as needed.

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Comfort working in an environment with chemicals and fumes (with proper ventilation and PPE).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, and stoop.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures in a manufacturing setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Prior experience working with fiberglass, composites, or similar materials.
  • Familiarity with various hand and power tools.
