Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Court Bailiff / Security Officer to join our team in Gulfport, Mississippi. This crucial role involves maintaining order, security, and decorum within the courthouse and its surrounding facilities. You will be responsible for the safety of judges, court personnel, jurors, witnesses, and the general public, as well as securing prisoners in court. This position offers the stability and comprehensive benefits associated with public sector employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain order and decorum in courtrooms and court facilities.
- Provide security for judges, court staff, jurors, witnesses, and the public.
- Escort and supervise prisoners during court appearances, ensuring their safe custody.
- Inspect court facilities and grounds for security risks and report any suspicious activities.
- Operate security equipment such as metal detectors and X-ray machines.
- Respond to emergencies and critical incidents promptly and effectively.
- Enforce court rules, regulations, and judicial orders.
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies and other security personnel as needed.
- Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate security logs.
- Assist with crowd control during high-profile cases or public events.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Mississippi Driver's License.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.
- Strong observation and situational awareness skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications.
- Physical fitness to perform duties including standing for long periods, walking, and occasional lifting.
- Ability to de-escalate conflicts effectively.
- Knowledge of basic security procedures and law enforcement protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or security roles.
- Mississippi Law Enforcement Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Experience with security equipment and surveillance systems.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
