Job Description

Pasco County Libraries is seeking an enthusiastic and organized 14-year-old to join our team as a Library Page at our Land O’ Lakes branch. This part-time position is an excellent opportunity for a young individual to gain valuable work experience in a supportive and educational environment. The Library Page will be responsible for ensuring our collection is meticulously organized and accessible to patrons, playing a crucial role in the daily operations of the library. This role requires attention to detail, a methodical approach, and a willingness to contribute to a positive library experience for all.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately sort and shelve library materials (books, DVDs, CDs) according to the Dewey Decimal System or other designated classifications.
  • Maintain the neatness and order of shelves, ensuring items are in their correct locations and facing forward.
  • Shift materials on shelves to create space for new additions and improve accessibility.
  • Identify and retrieve misplaced items from various areas of the library.
  • Assist with light clerical tasks as needed, such as preparing materials for programs or tidying public areas.
  • Follow all library policies and procedures, including safety guidelines.
  • Interact politely and professionally with library staff and patrons.

Required Skills

  • Must be 14 years of age.
  • Ability to read and understand English.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 15 lbs and pushing loaded book carts.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods.
  • Reliable and punctual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a volunteer in a library or similar setting.
  • Basic knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System (training will be provided).
  • A passion for reading and learning.
  • Good academic standing.
