Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Area Housekeeper & Porter to join our busy team. This combined role is crucial to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment, directly impacting patient well-being and staff effectiveness. You will be responsible for the cleanliness and hygiene of clinical areas, as well as providing essential portering services, including the movement of patients, equipment, and supplies. This is a vital position that requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and excellent communication skills. No two days will be the same, offering a dynamic and rewarding work experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning tasks in clinical areas, including wards, treatment rooms, and corridors, adhering to national cleaning standards and infection control policies.
- Ensure all areas are cleaned to the highest standard, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces.
- Manage waste disposal, including clinical and general waste, following strict segregation guidelines.
- Transport patients safely and comfortably between departments using appropriate equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, trolleys).
- Move medical equipment, laboratory samples, mail, and supplies across the hospital site efficiently.
- Respond promptly to requests for portering and housekeeping services from clinical staff.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of cleaning equipment, reporting any faults or issues.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Basic understanding of hygiene and infection control principles.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
- Certification in Manual Handling.
