Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Midwest Paleontology Lab Assistant and play a crucial role in supporting cutting-edge paleontological research. This full-time, on-site position offers a stable career path within a renowned academic institution. You will be instrumental in the discovery, preparation, and analysis of significant fossil specimens from across the Midwest and beyond, working alongside experienced paleontologists and researchers. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process fossil specimens for study, including cleaning, repair, and stabilization.
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of the department's fossil collections and digital databases.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Support paleontological fieldwork logistics and participate in specimen recovery and documentation as needed.
  • Perform data entry and basic analysis under the supervision of researchers.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assist with educational outreach activities and departmental events as required.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed and precise tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform tasks requiring dexterity and prolonged standing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Paleontology, or a related scientific field.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory or museum setting.
