Job Description

Join Hill’s Pet Nutrition as a Chemistry Intern and contribute to meaningful scientific research within our R&D department. This paid summer program offers hands-on experience in a dynamic laboratory environment, focusing on analytical chemistry, product development, and quality assurance for pet food and nutrition products. Interns will work alongside experienced scientists, gaining valuable insights into the industry and developing practical laboratory skills. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using various laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
  • Assist in the development and validation of new analytical methods.
  • Record, analyze, and interpret experimental data accurately and meticulously.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and quality control standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on ongoing research projects.
  • Prepare and present findings to project teams and mentors.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Basic understanding of general chemistry principles and laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, and chromatographs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting (academic or industrial).
  • Experience with chromatography (HPLC, GC) or spectroscopy (FTIR, UV-Vis).
  • Demonstrated interest in pet nutrition, food science, or consumer goods.
