Job Description
Are you an 18-year-old eager to make a tangible difference in your community? The City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as City Maintenance Hands. This ongoing, entry-level position offers a fantastic opportunity to learn valuable skills, contribute to the upkeep of our city’s parks and public spaces, and work outdoors. You’ll be an integral part of ensuring our community facilities remain clean, safe, and beautiful for all residents. No prior experience is required – we’re looking for individuals with a strong work ethic and a desire to contribute.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of city parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities.
- Perform general landscaping duties, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and planting.
- Help with the repair and maintenance of park equipment, benches, and picnic tables.
- Participate in trash removal and litter control across designated areas.
- Support minor construction and renovation projects as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Operate and maintain various hand and power tools under supervision.
- Report any damage, hazards, or maintenance issues to supervisors promptly.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (currently pursuing is acceptable).
- Basic knowledge of landscaping or general maintenance tasks.
- Valid Texas driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Enthusiasm for community service and environmental stewardship.
