Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for a unique ‘Farm Owner Direct Hire’ role focused on optimizing our picking and packing operations. This role offers the opportunity to bring your expertise and ‘top tips’ to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity within our berry farms in the Dundee area. You will be directly involved in hands-on picking and packing, while also contributing insights and best practices to improve processes and lead by example. This is a critical operational role requiring a proactive approach and a deep understanding of agricultural produce handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute high-quality picking and packing of fresh berries according to company standards and client specifications.
- Implement and share 'top tips' and best practices for efficient and gentle handling of produce to minimize waste and maximize quality.
- Monitor product quality during picking and packing, ensuring only the freshest berries are selected.
- Assist in the training and supervision of seasonal staff, demonstrating correct techniques and safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the fields and packing areas.
- Operate basic farm machinery or equipment as required (e.g., packing lines, sorting equipment).
- Collaborate with farm management to identify areas for improvement in picking, packing, and logistics.
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Accurately record production data and report any issues or discrepancies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agricultural picking and packing, preferably with soft fruits.
- Strong understanding of produce quality standards and handling best practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality output.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced outdoor and indoor environment.
- Strong work ethic and ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to share knowledge and improve processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience in a farm or packing house setting.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and HACCP principles.
- Experience with various types of packing machinery and equipment.
- Basic horticultural knowledge or understanding of berry cultivation.
- Valid UK driving license.
