Job Description
Pine Ridge Secondary School is seeking a passionate and dynamic Drama / Theater Arts Teacher to join our esteemed faculty. This is a full-time, on-site position designed for an educator committed to inspiring students through the performing arts. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching various drama and theater arts courses, directing school productions, and fostering a love for performance and creative expression among students from diverse backgrounds. This role requires an innovative approach to curriculum delivery, strong classroom management skills, and a collaborative spirit to contribute to our vibrant arts department.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging drama and theater arts curriculum for students across various grade levels.
- Direct school plays, musicals, and other theatrical productions, managing all aspects from auditions to final performances.
- Teach fundamental acting techniques, stagecraft, theater history, and dramatic theory.
- Assess and evaluate student performance, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages creative risk-taking and collaboration.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into the drama curriculum.
- Collaborate with other faculty members on interdisciplinary projects and school-wide events.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and school community activities.
- Mentor students interested in pursuing theater arts at a post-secondary level.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Drama, Theater Arts, Education with a specialization in Drama, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification or eligibility for certification in Ontario (e.g., OCT).
- Demonstrated experience teaching drama and theater arts at the secondary school level.
- Proven ability to direct and produce school theatrical productions.
- Strong knowledge of theater history, dramatic literature, and acting methodologies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
- Familiarity with current educational technologies and performing arts software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Theater Arts, Education, or a related discipline.
- Experience with various theatrical styles and techniques (e.g., improvisation, physical theater, musical theater).
- Portfolio of previous directorial work or performance experience.
- Ability to teach other arts subjects (e.g., music, visual arts) or English.
- Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL) or diverse student populations.
- Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum guidelines for Arts education.
