Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse to join our dynamic team for an immediate opening. In this critical role, you will provide comprehensive post-operative care to patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safety, comfort, and stabilization during the immediate recovery phase. This includes close monitoring of vital signs, pain management, assessment for complications, and preparing patients for discharge or transfer to another unit. The ideal candidate will possess excellent critical thinking skills, a strong commitment to patient advocacy, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the PACU, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, neurological status, respiratory and cardiovascular status, and pain levels post-anesthesia.
- Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed, including analgesics and antiemetics.
- Assess and manage post-operative pain effectively, utilizing various pain management techniques.
- Identify and respond promptly to adverse reactions, complications, or emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care instructions and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all patient care activities, observations, and interventions.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Required Skills
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in PACU, Critical Care, or Emergency Department settings.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) certification.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, particularly Epic.
