Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Aerospace Propulsion & Rocketry Intern to join our dynamic team in San Diego. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, analysis, and testing of advanced propulsion systems for various aerospace applications, including rockets, missiles, and spacecraft. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists, contributing to critical projects that advance the state-of-the-art in propulsion technology. This role is ideal for students passionate about space exploration, rocketry, and high-performance engineering, looking to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world, industry setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, analysis, and modeling of propulsion system components and subsystems.
  • Conduct simulations and perform calculations related to fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and combustion processes.
  • Support the preparation and execution of experimental tests on propulsion systems or components.
  • Analyze test data, interpret results, and contribute to technical reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, materials, and systems engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving sessions.
  • Research new technologies and methodologies in aerospace propulsion.
  • Document engineering processes, designs, and test procedures.
  • Learn and apply industry-standard engineering tools and software.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic record with coursework in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and propulsion.
  • Basic understanding of rocket propulsion fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages for data analysis and scripting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX).
  • Familiarity with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) or FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools.
  • Participation in rocketry clubs, design-build-test projects, or other hands-on engineering activities.
  • Previous internship or research experience in an aerospace-related field.
  • Knowledge of chemical kinetics or combustion modeling.
