Job Description
We are seeking a highly empathetic and discreet Mortuary Assistant Porter to join our dedicated team in Chesterfield. This vital role involves supporting our funeral directors and embalmers in the respectful care and preparation of the deceased. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional professionalism, sensitivity, and a strong work ethic. This position offers top pay for individuals who are committed to upholding the highest standards of dignity and service within the funeral profession.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the transfer of deceased individuals from various locations (hospitals, homes, care facilities) to the mortuary.
- Support embalmers and funeral directors in the preparation and presentation of the deceased, including dressing and casket placement.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the mortuary, preparation rooms, and associated equipment.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is completed accurately and confidentially.
- Operate specialist lifting and handling equipment safely and responsibly.
- Provide compassionate and professional support to bereaved families as required, often during viewings.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Assist with the storage and release of deceased individuals according to established protocols.
Required Skills
- Exceptional level of discretion, empathy, and professionalism.
- Strong physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a sensitive team.
- Valid UK driving license.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a mortuary, funeral services, or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of basic anatomical terminology.
- Certification in manual handling.
- First Aid qualification.
