Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legislative Tracking Clerk with a strong Political Science background to join our dynamic team in West Covina. This role is crucial for monitoring legislative developments, compiling research, and supporting our public policy and government relations practice. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring our legal professionals are informed of critical legislative changes and policy trends, directly impacting our ability to provide strategic advice to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor legislative calendars, committee hearings, and bill statuses at federal, state, and local levels.
- Track and summarize key legislative bills, amendments, and regulatory proposals relevant to firm clients and practice areas.
- Conduct research on policy issues, political landscapes, and legislative histories using various databases and resources.
- Prepare daily and weekly legislative reports, summaries, and alerts for attorneys and public policy professionals.
- Maintain and update legislative tracking databases with accurate and timely information.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations, memos, and other documents related to legislative developments.
- Liaise with internal teams to understand client needs and ensure tracking efforts align with strategic priorities.
- Perform administrative duties as needed to support the government affairs team.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Government, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest in the legislative process and public policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (internship or paid) in a legislative office, government agency, law firm, or advocacy group.
- Familiarity with legislative tracking software or databases (e.g., CQ Roll Call, LegiScan, Fastcase).
- Understanding of state and federal legislative procedures.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into concise summaries.
