Job Description
Solano Community College is seeking dynamic and passionate Adjunct Music Faculty to join our Arts and Humanities Department. This part-time position offers flexible scheduling to deliver engaging instruction in various music disciplines. We are looking for dedicated educators who can inspire students from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a rich learning environment. The ideal candidate will have expertise in music theory, history, performance, or specific instrumental/vocal instruction, and a commitment to student-centered teaching. This role involves teaching a variety of music courses, preparing syllabi, assessing student progress, and participating in departmental activities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach assigned music courses, which may include music theory, ear training, music history, ensemble direction, instrumental/vocal instruction, or music appreciation.
- Develop and update course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote student engagement.
- Assess student learning outcomes and provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades.
- Hold regular office hours or be available for student consultations.
- Participate in departmental meetings and college events as required.
- Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development and knowledge of current trends in music education.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the college's educational mission.
Required Skills
- Expertise in at least one area of music (e.g., theory, history, performance, composition).
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in relevant music software and technology (e.g., notation software, digital audio workstations) where applicable.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Commitment to student success and equitable teaching practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in Music or a closely related field.
- Previous experience teaching in a community college setting.
- Experience with online or hybrid course delivery methods.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Professional performance or composition experience.
