Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biotech Laboratory Specialist with a strong focus on genetic research to join our innovative team in Huntington Beach, CA. This role is crucial for advancing our understanding and application of genetic technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex laboratory experiments, analyzing genetic data, and contributing to the development of novel genetic research methodologies. Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute complex genetic experiments, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, genotyping, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation.
- Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory instruments, including sequencers, liquid handlers, and automated sample preparation systems.
- Perform meticulous data analysis using bioinformatics tools and statistical software, interpreting results and generating comprehensive reports.
- Develop and optimize new genetic assays and protocols to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental procedures, data, and results in electronic lab notebooks.
- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, quality control standards, and regulatory guidelines (GLP, CLIA, etc.).
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, sharing findings and contributing to project discussions.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with instrumentation and experimental protocols.
- Present research findings internally and potentially at scientific conferences.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a biotechnology or genetic research laboratory.
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, and cloning.
- Demonstrated experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation and platforms (e.g., Illumina).
- Strong understanding of genetic principles, genomic analysis, and bioinformatics tools.
- Experience with laboratory automation and data management systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related life science field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 technology or other gene editing techniques.
- Familiarity with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software.
- Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Experience in a GLP or CLIA regulated environment.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python) for data analysis.
