Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Printing Press Operator to join our dynamic production team in Augusta, GA. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining multi-color printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials according to specifications. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of printing processes, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain multi-color printing presses (e.g., offset, digital) according to job specifications and production schedules.
- Perform press setup, including plate installation, ink adjustments, paper loading, and machine calibration.
- Monitor print quality throughout production runs, making necessary adjustments to color, registration, and image clarity.
- Conduct routine machine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure optimal press performance.
- Troubleshoot press issues and resolve operational problems efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, operational procedures, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate production records, including job progress, material usage, and any defects or downtime.
- Collaborate with other production team members, including bindery and finishing, to ensure smooth workflow.
- Keep the work area clean and organized, adhering to 5S principles.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Printing Press Operator, preferably with multi-color presses.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent understanding of printing processes, ink properties, and paper types.
- Ability to read and interpret job orders, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in color matching and quality control.
- Attention to detail and precision in work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree or certification in printing technology or a related field.
- Experience with specific press models used by Quad/Graphics (e.g., Heidelberg, Manroland, KBA).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and system monitoring.
