Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate High School Orderly to join our healthcare support team. This entry-level position is ideal for motivated individuals currently enrolled in high school or recently graduated, who are interested in gaining valuable experience in a hospital setting. The Orderly will provide essential support to nurses, medical staff, and patients, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. This role is crucial in assisting with patient transport, maintaining unit readiness, and contributing to the overall efficiency of our medical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the safe and efficient transport of patients to and from various departments using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds.
- Help maintain a clean and organized patient environment, including tidying rooms and preparing for new admissions.
- Transport equipment, supplies, and specimens as directed by nursing staff.
- Respond to patient call lights and assist with non-medical needs, escalating medical concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Support nursing staff with basic patient care activities under direct supervision, such as changing linens or fetching supplies.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families, and staff.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school or possess a high school diploma/GED (or equivalent)
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic understanding of patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA)
- Physical ability to push, pull, lift, and stand for extended periods
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
- Compassionate and patient-focused demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare or service-oriented setting
- Basic First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Interest in pursuing a career in healthcare
