Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organised Hospital Storeman & Porter with a strong focus on inventory management and warehouse operations to join our busy team. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth flow of essential supplies and equipment throughout our hospital facilities, contributing directly to patient care and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for receiving, storing, distributing, and managing stock, as well as providing portering services as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and accurately record all incoming goods, ensuring compliance with delivery notes and quality standards.
  • Organise and maintain the hospital's main stores and various departmental stockrooms, ensuring proper storage, rotation, and accessibility of items.
  • Accurately pick and pack stock items for distribution to various departments and wards based on requisitions.
  • Conduct regular stock checks, cycle counts, and assist in periodic inventory audits to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Operate manual and powered material handling equipment safely (e.g., pallet trucks, trolleys) as required.
  • Provide efficient portering services, including the movement of patients, equipment, specimens, and mail across hospital sites.
  • Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of all storage areas, adhering to health and safety regulations and infection control policies.
  • Process returns and manage damaged or expired stock in accordance with established procedures.
  • Utilise inventory management systems to track stock movement and update records.
  • Communicate effectively with various hospital departments regarding stock levels, deliveries, and requests.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a storeman, warehouse, or logistics role, ideally within a healthcare or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately manage inventory and conduct stock checks.
  • Good physical fitness for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy items and prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Basic IT literacy for using inventory management systems and email.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and helpful demeanour.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures in a warehouse/hospital setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a hospital porter or similar role.
  • Knowledge of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Forklift license or experience with powered pallet trucks.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing & Storage or equivalent qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
