Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Cartographer / GIS Specialist to join our dynamic team in Ingersoll, Ontario. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with a passion for geospatial data and mapping, with sponsorship support available for qualified international candidates. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining complex geospatial databases, creating high-quality maps, and performing spatial analysis for a wide range of engineering and environmental projects. You will work alongside engineers, planners, and environmental scientists, contributing your expertise to critical infrastructure, urban planning, and environmental impact assessments. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and eager to contribute to meaningful projects that shape our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain geospatial databases and data layers using various GIS software platforms.
- Produce high-quality cartographic products, including thematic maps, web maps, and interactive dashboards, adhering to cartographic best practices.
- Perform complex spatial analysis, data modeling, and geoprocessing tasks to support project requirements.
- Collect, process, and integrate geospatial data from diverse sources (e.g., GPS, aerial imagery, LiDAR, existing datasets).
- Develop and implement GIS-based solutions and workflows to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
- Provide technical support and training to project teams on GIS software and data utilization.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations detailing methodologies and findings.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online suite of products (ArcMap experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of cartographic principles, map design, and data visualization techniques.
- Experience with spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and data management.
- Familiarity with various geospatial data formats and coordinate systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in other GIS software such as QGIS, Global Mapper.
- Experience with programming languages for GIS automation (e.g., Python, SQL).
- Knowledge of remote sensing techniques and image processing.
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server).
- Professional certification in GIS (e.g., GISP).
