Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Local Authority Senior Center Coordinator to lead and manage one of our vital Senior Centers in Chesterfield. This full-time, on-site role focuses on day hours, ensuring the smooth operation and vibrant atmosphere of the center. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing engaging programs, overseeing daily operations, and fostering a supportive and welcoming environment for our senior members. Your leadership will directly contribute to the well-being and social engagement of older adults in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and oversee the daily operations of the Senior Center, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a diverse range of programs and activities tailored to the interests and needs of senior center members, including educational, recreational, and social events.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor center staff and volunteers, ensuring high standards of service delivery and adherence to council policies.
  • Manage center budgets, resources, and facilities efficiently, including procurement of supplies and maintenance scheduling.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for members, their families, and external stakeholders, addressing inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, safeguarding policies, and local authority guidelines.
  • Promote the center's services within the community, collaborating with local organizations and partners to expand reach and impact.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and contribute to strategic planning for senior services.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities, with experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with seniors, families, staff, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex schedules.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and understanding in working with older adults and individuals with diverse needs.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) for administration, record-keeping, and communication.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safeguarding procedures relevant to senior care environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or relevant qualification in social care, public administration, recreation management, gerontology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in managing or coordinating a community center, senior center, or similar adult services program.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Understanding of local authority operations and public sector service delivery.
