Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program to gain a comprehensive understanding of public health legislation and best practices.
- Assist qualified Public Health Inspectors in conducting routine inspections of premises such as restaurants, shops, and businesses.
- Learn to investigate complaints related to food safety, environmental health, and public nuisances.
- Help prepare reports and documentation related to inspections and investigations.
- Shadow senior inspectors during enforcement actions and public health interventions.
- Engage with businesses and residents to provide advice and promote compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Actively study for and complete all required professional certifications, fully funded by the Council.
Required Skills
- A strong interest in public health and environmental protection.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to learn complex legislation and apply it practically.
- Good observational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- A commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Basic IT proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a science-related field, environmental health, or public health.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role or an environment requiring adherence to regulations.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or ability to travel across the city).
