Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Hospital Porters to join our team at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. This vital role involves supporting the smooth operation of the hospital by safely and efficiently transporting patients, equipment, and materials. You will be an integral part of our healthcare team, ensuring that patients receive timely care and that staff have the resources they need. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, including those with varying mobility needs, to and from wards, departments, and treatment areas via beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs.
  • Move medical equipment, beds, furniture, clinical waste, specimens, and other items as required throughout the hospital premises.
  • Deliver and collect mail, laboratory samples, and pharmaceutical supplies promptly and securely.
  • Assist with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, showing dignity and respect.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, ensuring equipment is kept in good order and reporting any defects.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to urgent requests and emergencies, following hospital protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and staff members at all times.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, manual handling guidelines, and hospital policies.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a polite and helpful demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Good level of physical fitness, capable of prolonged walking, standing, pushing, and lifting.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures.
  • Manual handling training certification.
