Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Lead Patient Porter with a strong focus on management training. This pivotal role involves coordinating and executing the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and critical supplies throughout our hospital sites. Beyond the daily operational duties, you will embark on a structured management training program designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to progress into supervisory and leadership positions within our facilities and support services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to develop their career in healthcare management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies between hospital departments.
  • Provide clear direction and support to junior porters, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Act as a first point of contact for service requests, escalating complex issues to supervisors as necessary.
  • Participate actively in a comprehensive management training program, including shadowing supervisors, attending workshops, and undertaking projects.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of all portering equipment.
  • Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping of all tasks performed.
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient dignity, privacy, and safety at all times.
  • Assist with the induction and on-the-job training of new portering staff.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of portering services and patient experience.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Basic IT literacy for record-keeping and communication.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties including lifting, pushing, and walking for extended periods.
  • A genuine interest in developing management and leadership capabilities.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and patient privacy principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
  • Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of manual handling techniques.
  • Completed or working towards relevant vocational qualifications.
