Job Description
As a Flavor & Fragrance Chemist with a focus on Sensory Science, you will be a pivotal member of our R&D team in Cincinnati. This role involves the meticulous analysis, development, and optimization of flavor and fragrance compounds, with a strong emphasis on understanding and influencing sensory perception. You will leverage your expertise to create innovative solutions that captivate consumers, working across a diverse portfolio of products. Your responsibilities will span from initial concept generation through to product launch, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and optimization of new flavor and fragrance formulations, integrating sensory science principles.
- Conduct comprehensive analytical testing on raw materials and finished products using techniques such as GC-MS, HPLC, and olfactometry.
- Collaborate with sensory panels to gather and interpret data, translating insights into actionable chemical modifications.
- Manage projects from conception to scale-up, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines and quality standards.
- Maintain detailed laboratory records, prepare technical reports, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements in flavor, fragrance, and sensory perception.
- Provide technical support to production, quality control, and sales teams as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or biochemistry.
- Strong understanding of flavor and/or fragrance chemistry, including raw material interactions.
- Proficiency with analytical instruments (GC-MS, HPLC, spectrophotometry).
- Experience with sensory evaluation methodologies and data interpretation.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
- Certification in sensory evaluation or flavor chemistry.
- Experience with advanced statistical analysis software for sensory data.
- Knowledge of global regulatory requirements for flavors and fragrances.
- Previous experience in the consumer goods or specialty chemicals industry.
