Job Description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Action for Children is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Youth Worker to join our team in Southport. You will be instrumental in providing a safe, nurturing, and stable environment for young people in our residential care, supporting their emotional, social, and educational development. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, support, and supervision to young people in a residential setting.
  • Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with young people, acting as a role model.
  • Support young people with their daily routines, including personal care, meal times, and activities.
  • Implement care plans and risk assessments, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
  • Engage young people in educational, recreational, and social activities, both within the home and in the community.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on residents' progress, behaviour, and incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers, and other professionals.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training and development.
  • Administer medication in accordance with policy and procedure (after appropriate training).
  • Promote independence and life skills development among young people.

Required Skills

  • Genuine passion for working with young people and helping them achieve their potential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience to manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Basic IT literacy for record keeping and communication.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a residential, care, or educational setting.
  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviours or complex needs.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • First Aid qualification.
