Job Description
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Action for Children is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Youth Worker to join our team in Southport. You will be instrumental in providing a safe, nurturing, and stable environment for young people in our residential care, supporting their emotional, social, and educational development. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, support, and supervision to young people in a residential setting.
- Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with young people, acting as a role model.
- Support young people with their daily routines, including personal care, meal times, and activities.
- Implement care plans and risk assessments, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
- Engage young people in educational, recreational, and social activities, both within the home and in the community.
- Maintain accurate records and reports on residents' progress, behaviour, and incidents.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers, and other professionals.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training and development.
- Administer medication in accordance with policy and procedure (after appropriate training).
- Promote independence and life skills development among young people.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion for working with young people and helping them achieve their potential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport.
- Empathy, patience, and resilience to manage challenging situations effectively.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Basic IT literacy for record keeping and communication.
- Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a residential, care, or educational setting.
- Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviours or complex needs.
- Full UK Driving License.
- First Aid qualification.
