Job Description

Join the Davey Tree Expert Company as a Tree Ground Crew Assistant! This is an exciting outdoor physical role perfect for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are physically fit, and eager to learn the fundamentals of professional tree care. You will be an integral part of our crew, assisting certified arborists and experienced tree workers in various tree maintenance and removal projects. This entry-level position offers comprehensive training and a clear path for career advancement within the arboriculture industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist tree climbers and crew leaders with ground operations, including rigging, roping, and securing work areas.
  • Operate and maintain various hand tools and power equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, and stump grinders, under supervision.
  • Perform brush chipping and debris removal, ensuring a clean and safe worksite.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials at the beginning and end of each workday.
  • Support proper traffic control and maintain a safe environment for crew members and the public.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, including cleaning, sharpening, and refueling.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform strenuous outdoor physical labor in various weather conditions.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid G driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience working outdoors or in a physically demanding role.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Basic knowledge of tree species.
