Old Dominion Freight Line is offering an incredible opportunity for motivated individuals to join our team as a Trainee Heavy Vehicle Operator. No prior experience is required! We provide comprehensive, paid CDL-A training to equip you with the skills and certification needed to become a professional heavy vehicle operator. This program includes hands-on instruction, classroom learning, and all the support necessary to obtain your Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Upon successful completion and obtaining your CDL-A, you will transition into a full-time professional driver role with Old Dominion, enjoying a stable career with excellent benefits and growth potential. Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and complete all aspects of the company-sponsored CDL-A training program.
- Learn and adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding commercial vehicle operation.
- Master pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of heavy vehicles.
- Develop skills in safe operation of various heavy vehicles, including backing, maneuvering, and coupling/uncoupling trailers.
- Understand and practice defensive driving techniques.
- Maintain accurate training logs and documentation as required.
- Communicate effectively with instructors, trainers, and company personnel.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and compliance throughout the training and subsequent driving career.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 70 pounds occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Proven record of reliability and punctuality.
