Job Description
LegalZoom is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Remote Legal Researcher to join our dynamic team on a 1099 contract basis. This role is ideal for current law students or recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in various legal fields. As a Legal Researcher, you will be instrumental in supporting our legal professionals by conducting comprehensive legal research, drafting memoranda, summarizing cases, and analyzing statutes and regulations. This is a fully remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work with diverse legal topics.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research using online databases such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other relevant sources.
- Draft clear, concise, and well-supported legal memoranda, briefs, and summaries.
- Analyze statutes, regulations, case law, and legal articles to identify key issues and relevant precedents.
- Summarize complex legal documents and provide critical insights to legal teams.
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents and reports as needed.
- Maintain organized research records and effectively manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
- Stay updated on current legal trends and developments relevant to ongoing projects.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in legal research methodologies and tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment
- Basic understanding of legal principles and terminology
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program
- Strong academic record
- Previous experience in a legal internship or research assistant role
