Job Description

AECOM is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry Level Mitigation Monitor to join our environmental team in Sacramento, California. This immediate hire position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about environmental protection and compliance to kickstart their career. As a Mitigation Monitor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring construction and development projects adhere to environmental regulations and permit conditions, particularly concerning natural resources, cultural resources, and habitat protection. You will be responsible for conducting field observations, documenting activities, and reporting on compliance, working closely with project managers, environmental specialists, and construction personnel. This role is primarily field-based, requiring regular travel to various project sites within California.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular on-site monitoring of construction and development activities to ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and mitigation measures.
  • Identify potential environmental impacts and non-compliance issues and communicate them promptly to project managers and relevant stakeholders.
  • Document observations, photographs, and field data accurately and thoroughly using appropriate tools and software.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly monitoring reports summarizing site activities, compliance status, and any deviations.
  • Assist in the implementation of best management practices (BMPs) for erosion control, hazardous materials handling, and wildlife protection.
  • Collaborate with construction teams, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies to resolve environmental issues.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations relevant to project sites.
  • Participate in site visits, meetings, and training sessions as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a field environment and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • A strong interest in environmental science, conservation, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Conservation, Geology, or a related discipline (or currently pursuing).
  • Prior internship or volunteer experience in environmental monitoring, field biology, or construction oversight.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna, particularly within California.
  • Familiarity with GIS software or field data collection applications.
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Construction Safety certification.
