Job Description

Avista is seeking a passionate and driven Renewable Energy Intern with a focus on Solar/Wind Integration. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector. You will work alongside experienced engineers and specialists, contributing to projects that integrate solar and wind energy into our existing grid infrastructure, helping to shape the future of energy in our region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the analysis and evaluation of renewable energy project data, specifically for solar and wind power generation.
  • Support engineers in the design and modeling of grid integration strategies for new and existing renewable energy assets.
  • Conduct research on emerging renewable energy technologies and grid modernization techniques.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to project findings.
  • Participate in field visits to renewable energy facilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective project execution and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the development of solutions for grid stability and reliability with high penetrations of renewable energy.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Basic understanding of renewable energy principles, particularly solar PV and wind turbine technology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable energy and grid integration challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP).
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis.
  • Previous internship or project experience in the energy sector.
  • Knowledge of grid codes and interconnection standards.
