Job Description
Are you a former CDL-A driver looking to re-enter the exciting world of professional trucking? Knight-Swift Transportation invites you to join our paid CDL-A Refresher Course – Back to Work Program. This comprehensive program is designed to help you brush up on your skills, get reacquainted with modern equipment and safety protocols, and transition seamlessly back into a fulfilling career as a professional truck driver. We provide hands-on training, classroom instruction, and the support you need to regain confidence and get back on the road earning competitive pay. Successful completion of the program leads directly to a full-time driving position with Knight-Swift Transportation.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all aspects of the CDL-A Refresher Course, including classroom and behind-the-wheel training.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pre-trip inspections, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving maneuvers.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
- Maintain a professional attitude and commitment to learning throughout the program.
- Complete all required paperwork and evaluations accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate effectively with instructors and fellow trainees.
- Prepare for and pass any necessary re-certification exams or driving tests required to secure full-time employment.
Required Skills
- Possession of a valid CDL-A license (even if expired or requiring renewal).
- Clean driving record with no major violations in the past 3-5 years.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all traffic laws.
- Ability to operate commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior CDL-A driving experience, even if lapsed for several years.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and dispatch systems.
- A strong work ethic and desire to excel in the transportation industry.
- Residency in or willingness to relocate to the San Antonio, TX area for the duration of the program.
