Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Entry Level Estimator with a Mechanical Engineering focus to join our dynamic team in Thousand Oaks, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in cost estimation within a leading global infrastructure firm. The successful candidate will work closely with senior estimators and project managers, contributing to the accurate and timely preparation of project bids and proposals. This role is crucial for ensuring the financial viability and competitiveness of our mechanical engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior estimators in preparing comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
- Review and interpret project blueprints, specifications, and other technical documentation to identify scope requirements.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment required for mechanical installations.
- Research and gather current pricing for materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Input data into estimating software and spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Support the development of proposals, including scope narratives, clarifications, and exclusions.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure alignment on project costs and schedules.
- Participate in bid review meetings and provide input on estimate assumptions and risks.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and cost libraries with current market data.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and spreadsheet management.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or co-op experience in construction, engineering, or estimating.
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar platforms).
- Basic understanding of construction processes and building codes.
- Knowledge of various mechanical systems and components.
