Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated ICP-MS Chemist to join our analytical team in Irvine, CA. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for performing metals analysis using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) for a variety of sample matrices, including environmental, food, and industrial samples. This role requires strong technical expertise in ICP-MS operation, data interpretation, and method development, ensuring precise and accurate results in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will contribute significantly to maintaining our high standards of quality and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain ICP-MS instrumentation for routine sample analysis and advanced research projects.
- Perform sample preparation using various techniques such as acid digestion, microwave digestion, and filtration.
- Develop, validate, and optimize ICP-MS methods for new applications and challenging matrices.
- Analyze and interpret complex data, ensuring accuracy and adherence to quality control guidelines.
- Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of experiments, analyses, and results.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality assurance standards (e.g., ISO 17025, NELAC).
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior chemists or technicians as needed.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ICP-MS operation, maintenance, and data interpretation.
- Strong understanding of inorganic chemistry and analytical principles.
- Experience with various sample preparation techniques for trace metals analysis.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures and regulatory guidelines (e.g., EPA, FDA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with other analytical techniques (e.g., ICP-OES, AA, IC).
- Experience in a commercial testing laboratory or a GLP/GMP regulated environment.
- Familiarity with method validation processes.
- Knowledge of elemental speciation analysis.
