Job Description
As a Policy Engagement Lead with a focus on Social Media Trends at Meta, you will be instrumental in shaping our public policy positions related to emerging social media trends, user behavior, and digital culture. You will analyze rapidly evolving online phenomena, anticipate potential policy challenges, and engage with external stakeholders, policymakers, and civil society groups to articulate Meta’s perspective and gather feedback. This role requires a deep understanding of social media dynamics, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex trends into actionable policy strategies. You will work cross-functionally with product, legal, communications, and research teams to ensure our products and policies are informed by a comprehensive understanding of the digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyze, and report on emerging social media trends, cultural shifts, and user behaviors across Meta’s platforms and the broader digital ecosystem.
- Identify potential policy implications and challenges arising from these trends, developing proactive policy recommendations and engagement strategies.
- Lead engagement with external stakeholders including government officials, academics, think tanks, NGOs, and industry partners on issues related to social media trends and their societal impact.
- Develop and articulate Meta’s policy positions through written briefs, presentations, and public speaking engagements.
- Collaborate closely with internal product, engineering, legal, research, and communications teams to inform product development and policy formulation.
- Provide expert advice on relevant legislation, regulatory proposals, and public discourse concerning digital trends and content.
- Represent Meta at conferences, workshops, and multi-stakeholder initiatives focusing on digital policy and social media.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion formers and decision-makers in the policy and tech space.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in social media trends, digital culture, and online community dynamics.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise policy recommendations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in public speaking and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, complex environment.
- Experience in policy development, advocacy, or government relations, particularly in the tech sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Sociology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or J.D. in a relevant field.
- Experience working with international policy bodies or a global policy remit.
- Fluency in multiple languages.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and methodologies to understand digital trends.
- Published work or significant contributions to research on digital sociology, online communities, or internet governance.
