Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Operations Manager with a strong administrative chemistry focus to join our dynamic team in Columbus, OH. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily administrative and operational aspects of our chemistry laboratory, ensuring efficient resource utilization, compliance with safety and quality standards, and continuous process improvement. This position requires a proactive individual who can manage complex logistics, support scientific staff with non-technical tasks, and maintain a seamless operational flow in a fast-paced research and development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage laboratory supplies, inventory control, and procurement processes, ensuring timely availability of necessary materials.
  • Coordinate all aspects of equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair schedules to minimize downtime and ensure accuracy.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for administrative and operational tasks.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, quality assurance standards, and company policies.
  • Oversee laboratory budgeting, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Facilitate training for new and existing staff on administrative procedures, safety protocols, and operational best practices.
  • Act as a primary liaison between laboratory staff and other internal departments such as finance, HR, facilities, and IT.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, documentation, and databases related to lab operations, equipment, and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance laboratory efficiency and productivity.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in laboratory operations or administrative management within a chemistry-focused environment.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols, quality systems (e.g., ISO, GLP), and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar inventory/asset management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, as well as strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a scientific discipline, business administration, or related field.
  • Experience with lean laboratory principles, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with specific regulatory frameworks relevant to the chemical industry.
  • Previous experience in a leadership, supervisory, or project management role.
