Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and eager to develop a rewarding career in grounds maintenance and horticulture? Worcester City Council is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Grounds Maintenance Workers / Trainee Gardeners. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn, regardless of previous experience. You will be instrumental in maintaining the beauty and functionality of Worcester’s public spaces, working alongside experienced professionals who will guide your development. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the general upkeep and maintenance of parks, gardens, sports pitches, and other public green spaces.
- Operate and maintain a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers (training provided).
- Undertake tasks such as grass cutting, weeding, pruning, planting, and litter picking.
- Help with the preparation and maintenance of flower beds, shrubberies, and other horticultural features.
- Ensure all work is carried out to a high standard, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Report any equipment faults or hazards promptly to a supervisor.
- Work collaboratively within a team to achieve daily operational goals.
Required Skills
- A strong interest in horticulture and outdoor work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
- A positive attitude, reliability, and punctuality.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable, but not essential for trainees).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar outdoor role (volunteer or paid).
- Basic knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
- NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Horticulture or Landscaping (or working towards).
