Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Guitar Technician to join our team at the Saint Paul location. This role is crucial for providing exceptional service to our customers by performing a wide range of repairs, maintenance, and setup services on acoustic, electric, and bass guitars, as well as other stringed instruments. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of guitar construction, electronics, and playability, coupled with excellent customer service skills. You will be responsible for diagnosing issues, providing accurate estimates, and executing high-quality repairs in a timely manner, contributing directly to our reputation for excellence in the music community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, setups, and adjustments on various stringed instruments.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot structural, electronic, and playability issues on guitars and basses.
- Execute advanced repairs including fret leveling, refretting, neck resets, headstock repairs, and electronics modifications.
- Provide accurate repair estimates and communicate effectively with customers regarding repair status and options.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the repair shop.
- Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies necessary for repairs.
- Collaborate with sales staff to provide technical advice and support to customers.
- Adhere to Guitar Center's quality standards and timelines for all repairs.
- Continuously expand knowledge of new instruments, repair techniques, and industry trends.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a guitar technician or luthier.
- Proficient in performing setups, fret work, electronics repair, and structural repairs on acoustic and electric guitars.
- Strong understanding of guitar anatomy, wood types, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams for guitar electronics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or certification from a luthier school or reputable instrument repair program.
- Experience with amplifier repair or other musical instrument maintenance.
- Proficiency with power tools and specialized luthier tools.
- Knowledge of vintage instrument restoration techniques.
- Passion for music and familiarity with a wide range of guitar brands and models.
