Job Description

Join HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital as a Night Shift Pharmacy Technician and become an integral part of our dedicated healthcare team. In this secure facility, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely distribution of medications to our patients during the overnight hours. This position offers premium pay rates to compensate for the unique demands of night shift work, supporting our commitment to continuous, high-quality patient care. We are seeking a detail-oriented, certified pharmacy technician with a strong commitment to accuracy and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Maintain precise inventory control of medications and pharmaceutical supplies, including controlled substances.
  • Process medication orders efficiently and accurately, utilizing automated dispensing systems like Pyxis.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Perform medication stocking, rotation, and expiration date checks to ensure product integrity.
  • Participate in routine pharmacy tasks, including cleaning and organizing the pharmacy area.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication orders and patient needs.
  • Provide support during emergency situations, ensuring rapid access to critical medications.
  • Operate and troubleshoot pharmacy equipment and technology.
  • Document all actions and observations accurately in patient records and pharmacy logs.
  • Collaborate with the pharmacy team to optimize workflow and enhance medication safety practices.
  • Respond to and resolve medication-related inquiries from healthcare staff during the night shift.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) from a recognized national organization (e.g., PTCB or NHA).
  • Active Pharmacy Technician registration with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital or retail setting.
  • Proficient in basic pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software and automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
  • Flexibility to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Experience with IV admixture preparation.
  • Knowledge of USP 797 and 800 guidelines.
