Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and visionary Music Lead to inspire and direct our vibrant music program at George Washington Academy. The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator with a strong background in music performance and pedagogy, capable of developing and implementing a comprehensive music curriculum for K-8 students. This role requires exceptional leadership skills to mentor fellow music educators, coordinate performances, and cultivate an innovative learning environment that celebrates diverse musical traditions and encourages student creativity. The Music Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping the artistic landscape of our school, ensuring our students receive an enriching and high-quality music education that aligns with our mission and vision. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive K-8 music curriculum aligned with state and national standards.
- Lead and mentor a team of music educators, fostering professional growth and collaborative practices.
- Direct and organize school-wide musical performances, concerts, and events, showcasing student talent.
- Integrate innovative teaching methodologies and technology to enhance music education.
- Manage music department resources, including instrument inventory, budget, and facility usage.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate music across the curriculum and support school-wide initiatives.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback, fostering musical growth and appreciation.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration regarding program goals and student achievements.
- Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in music education.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching license/certification in Music (Utah preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience teaching music at the K-8 level.
- Proven leadership experience in an educational or arts setting.
- Proficiency in multiple musical instruments and vocal instruction.
- Strong understanding of music theory, history, and various musical genres.
- Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency with educational technology and music software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Education or Educational Leadership.
- Experience with Kodály, Orff, or Dalcroze methodologies.
- Experience directing school choirs, bands, or orchestras.
- Familiarity with charter school environments and their unique educational models.
- Demonstrated ability to secure grants or external funding for music programs.
