Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Independent Drayage Drivers to partner with XPO Logistics for port and rail logistics operations. As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of intermodal containers between ports/rail yards and customer locations. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport intermodal containers to and from designated ports, rail yards, and customer facilities.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) rules, and port/rail facility guidelines.
- Maintain accurate logbooks and submit all required documentation (bill of lading, proof of delivery, etc.) in a timely manner.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck and chassis, ensuring all equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch and customer service regarding pick-up and delivery statuses, delays, or issues.
- Manage time effectively to meet scheduled pick-up and delivery appointments.
- Operate and maintain personal tractor/trailer equipment in compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
- Ensure proper handling and securing of cargo to prevent damage during transit.
- Represent XPO Logistics professionally when interacting with customers and facility personnel.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
- Minimum of 2 years verifiable Class A driving experience, preferably in drayage or intermodal.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card (or ability to obtain one).
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Proficiency in maintaining electronic logging devices (ELDs) and adhering to HOS regulations.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of port and rail facility procedures and safety protocols.
- Reliable personal tractor/trailer equipment meeting all DOT requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazmat endorsement (preferred but not required)
- Experience with specific port/rail operating systems (e.g., eModal, UIIA).
- Proven track record of safe and efficient freight delivery.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability in dynamic environments.
