Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced ICP-MS Chemist with a strong focus on metals analysis to join our state-of-the-art laboratory in New Port Richey, FL. The successful candidate will be instrumental in operating and maintaining Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) instruments, performing complex metals analyses on various sample matrices, and contributing to method development and validation efforts. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a commitment to quality, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ICP-MS instrumentation for routine metals analysis.
- Perform sample preparation techniques specific to metals analysis (e.g., digestions, extractions).
- Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for new analytes or improved efficiency.
- Analyze environmental, industrial, or pharmaceutical samples according to established SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
- Interpret complex data, perform calculations, and prepare accurate reports of analytical results.
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) protocols, including calibration verification, spikes, and blanks.
- Maintain meticulous laboratory records, logbooks, and documentation in accordance with GLP/ISO standards.
- Assist in the training of junior chemists and laboratory technicians.
- Identify and resolve technical issues related to instrumentation or analytical methods.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in ICP-MS technology and metals analysis.
- Participate in laboratory safety programs and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting ICP-MS instruments.
- Demonstrated expertise in metals analysis techniques and sample preparation.
- Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles, particularly for trace element analysis.
- Proficiency with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Excellent data interpretation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry or related field.
- Experience with ICP-OES or other atomic spectroscopy techniques.
- Proven experience in analytical method development and validation.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations (e.g., EPA methods) or pharmaceutical guidelines (e.g., USP).
- Experience with various ICP-MS software platforms.
