Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Access Representative to join our Emergency Room Front Desk team in McKinney, TX. In this crucial role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process, accurately collecting patient demographics, insurance information, and explaining financial responsibilities. This position requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. You will play a vital part in facilitating patient care by ensuring all necessary administrative procedures are completed promptly and accurately, upholding our commitment to patient-centered care and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and register patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department promptly and courteously.
- Accurately collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and financial information.
- Obtain necessary consents for treatment and financial responsibility signatures.
- Explain hospital policies, patient rights, and financial obligations clearly to patients and their families.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, and process co-payments or deductibles as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely patient flow and address patient access needs.
- Answer incoming calls, direct inquiries, and provide general information.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk area.
- Participate in continuous training and development to stay updated on registration processes and insurance changes.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a customer service, administrative, or office setting, preferably in healthcare.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in healthcare administration or a related field.
- 1+ year of experience in patient registration or medical office administration.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance verification processes.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
