Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Live Sound Technician with a strong focus on concert and touring environments. This dynamic role involves extensive travel to various venues across North America to set up, operate, and maintain state-of-the-art audio equipment for a wide range of live music events. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of live sound principles, excellent technical troubleshooting skills, and a passionate dedication to delivering exceptional auditory experiences for both artists and audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel extensively to concert venues and tour locations as required across North America.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate front-of-house (FOH) and monitor sound systems for live performances, ensuring optimal sound quality.
  • Conduct thorough sound checks with artists and their technical teams, making adjustments to achieve desired audio levels and clarity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex audio equipment issues quickly and efficiently during live events, often under high-pressure situations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on all audio gear, ensuring equipment is always in top working condition.
  • Collaborate effectively with production managers, stage crew, lighting technicians, and artists to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Safely load in and load out audio equipment, supervising proper packing, transport, and storage.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all sound equipment and verify its proper function before and after each event.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies for equipment handling and stage operations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Live Sound Technician, with significant experience in concert or touring environments.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard digital and analog mixing consoles (e.g., Avid VENUE, Digico, Midas, Yamaha).
  • Strong understanding of signal flow, gain structure, acoustics, and audio networking protocols (e.g., Dante, AVB).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex audio systems and equipment under pressure.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various microphone types, placements, and wireless systems.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively and for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with a professional demeanor.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work long hours in varying environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Live Event Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Industry certifications in specific audio equipment or software (e.g., Dante Level 2/3, Waves SoundGrid, Smaart).
  • Experience with rigging principles and stage electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD or other system design software for venue layouts.
  • Prior experience leading or supervising a small audio team.
  • Experience with intercom systems and show communications.
