Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Weights & Measures Inspector to join our dedicated team. You will receive comprehensive training to become proficient in inspecting weighing and measuring equipment, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and investigating potential infringements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior inspectors in conducting routine inspections of weighing and measuring equipment in various commercial settings (e.g., shops, markets, petrol stations).
- Learn to identify and report non-compliant equipment or practices.
- Under supervision, carry out initial investigations into complaints regarding short weight/measure or misleading descriptions.
- Develop understanding of relevant legislation, including the Weights and Measures Act and associated regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, investigations, and findings.
- Engage with businesses and consumers, providing advice and guidance on compliance.
- Participate in training programs and work towards professional accreditation.
- Assist in enforcement actions where necessary, under the guidance of experienced officers.
Required Skills
- A genuine interest in consumer protection and fair trading.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- A valid UK driving licence or willingness to obtain one.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including English and Mathematics.
Preferred Qualifications
- A-Levels (or equivalent) in a science or technical subject.
- Experience in a customer service or regulatory environment.
- Knowledge of basic physics or engineering principles.
