Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Trailer Loader with a focus on Loading Bay Operative duties to join our dynamic team in Basildon. This crucial role involves the efficient and safe loading and unloading of trailers, ensuring timely dispatch and receipt of goods within our busy distribution centre. You will be instrumental in maintaining the flow of our supply chain, working closely with warehouse staff and drivers to uphold our high standards of operational excellence and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and safely load and unload goods from trailers using appropriate equipment.
  • Ensure all incoming and outgoing goods are correctly documented and checked against manifests.
  • Operate manual handling equipment (MHE) such as pump trucks and potentially forklifts (if certified) safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company procedures, including safe stacking and securing of loads.
  • Conduct pre-use checks on equipment and report any faults or damages promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organised loading bay area, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with warehouse team members and drivers to optimise loading schedules and resolve issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the loading bay operations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a warehouse or loading bay environment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to health and safety procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and load checking.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE) such as counterbalance or reach trucks, with valid certification.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Knowledge of safe loading techniques for various types of goods.
