Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Radio Sound Engineer for live broadcasting operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the highest quality audio output for our on-air programming across multiple stations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all broadcast audio equipment, providing real-time support for live shows, remote broadcasts, and recorded segments. This position requires working a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and comes with a shift differential for qualifying hours. You will play a vital role in delivering an exceptional listening experience to our audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot broadcast audio equipment, including mixing consoles, microphones, processors, and routing systems for live radio programming.
- Conduct pre-show checks and calibrations to ensure optimal audio quality and functionality.
- Provide immediate technical support for on-air talent and producers during live broadcasts, ensuring seamless transitions and resolving any audio issues promptly.
- Set up and break down audio equipment for remote broadcasts, special events, and studio recordings.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all audio systems and equipment.
- Manage and organize audio assets, including sound effects, music beds, and commercial spots.
- Collaborate with production teams to achieve desired audio aesthetics for various programs.
- Document equipment issues, maintenance activities, and system configurations.
- Adhere to FCC regulations and internal broadcast standards.
- Participate in training and development to stay current with evolving broadcast technologies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sound Engineer, Broadcast Engineer, or similar role in a live broadcasting environment.
- Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and digital audio workstations (DAWs).
- Proficiency with professional audio mixing consoles (both analog and digital).
- Experience with broadcast automation systems and playout software.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex audio issues quickly and effectively under pressure.
- Familiarity with RF transmission, IP audio, and broadcast IT infrastructure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with on-air talent and production staff.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Audio Production, or a related field.
- Certifications in relevant broadcast technologies or audio engineering.
- Experience with specific Audacy broadcast systems (e.g., WideOrbit, VoxPro, Adobe Audition).
- Knowledge of IT networking principles as they apply to broadcast operations.
