Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Think Tank IT Technician with a strong focus on Network and Security to join our specialized research and development unit in Orem. In this critical role, you will be the frontline support for our cutting-edge IT infrastructure, ensuring the stability, security, and performance of systems used by our innovative Think Tank team. You will be responsible for maintaining complex network environments, implementing robust security protocols, and providing swift technical assistance to researchers and engineers pushing the boundaries of technology. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and a passion for securing advanced research environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN) within the Think Tank environment, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
- Implement, monitor, and enforce security policies and procedures to protect sensitive research data and intellectual property.
- Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, and network-related issues, diagnosing and resolving problems efficiently.
- Perform regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Assist in the design, configuration, and deployment of new network segments, security appliances, and IT solutions.
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and access controls in accordance with security best practices.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, security incidents, and IT processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D engineers and security specialists, to ensure seamless integration and secure operation of new systems.
- Respond to and resolve IT incidents, including after-hours support when necessary, to minimize downtime for critical research operations.
- Stay current with emerging network technologies, security threats, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in IT support or network administration, with a strong emphasis on network and security.
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and network security principles.
- Experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems in a professional environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with highly technical teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced research setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Security+, CEH, Network+).
- Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) environments.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
- Previous experience working in a research and development, think tank, or highly secure environment.
- Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
