Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biotech Laboratory Specialist with a strong focus on genetic research to join our innovative team in Chesapeake, VA. This role is critical in supporting advanced genetic studies, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries, and ensuring the highest standards of laboratory operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing library preparation, and CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing experiments.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory instruments such as sequencers (e.g., Illumina, PacBio), qPCR systems, and robotic liquid handlers.
  • Analyze experimental data using specialized bioinformatics software and interpret results, preparing detailed reports and presentations.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate new experimental protocols and methodologies to enhance research efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain meticulous laboratory records, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all safety and quality control standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with experiments and instrumentation, implementing corrective actions effectively.
  • Collaborate with senior scientists and research associates on project design, execution, and data dissemination.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, order supplies, and ensure the proper functioning and calibration of all equipment.
  • Adhere to strict laboratory safety protocols and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in lab practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a molecular biology or genetics laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in advanced molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, and electrophoresis.
  • Demonstrated experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows and data interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of genetic principles and experimental design.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, including familiarity with statistical software or bioinformatics tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques and viral vector production.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Prior experience in a GLP/GCP compliant environment.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
