Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Theatrical Wardrobe / Costume Dresser to join our backstage team for an upcoming production. This is a demanding, fast-paced role that requires exceptional attention to detail, speed, and a calm demeanor under pressure. You will be responsible for the meticulous care and management of elaborate costumes, ensuring performers are dressed and undressed swiftly and accurately for multiple changes during live shows. Key Responsibilities
- Execute rapid costume changes for performers during live performances.
- Perform minor repairs, alterations, and maintenance on costumes as needed, including hand and machine sewing.
- Organize, inventory, and track all costume pieces, accessories, and footwear.
- Prepare costumes for each show, ensuring they are clean, pressed, and in excellent condition.
- Assist with performer fittings and ensure costumes fit correctly and comfortably.
- Maintain a clean and organized wardrobe area backstage.
- Collaborate effectively with performers, stage management, and other technical departments.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and production schedules.
- Assist with laundry and dry cleaning of costumes according to specific fabric care instructions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a theatrical dresser or wardrobe technician in a live production environment.
- Proficiency in basic hand and machine sewing techniques for costume repair.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under high-pressure, time-sensitive conditions.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina to stand, move quickly, and lift costume cases as required.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by show schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training in costume design, theatrical production, or fashion.
- Experience with a variety of costume materials, including delicate fabrics and elaborate embellishments.
- Familiarity with historical costume styles and period appropriate dressing techniques.
- Basic knowledge of wig maintenance and styling.
- Certification in first aid or emergency response.
