Job Description

As a Tax Policy Researcher focusing on IRS and Treasury Alignment, you will play a crucial role in analyzing and interpreting complex tax laws, regulations, and policy guidance issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. This position requires a keen understanding of federal tax policy and its practical application, enabling our clients to proactively respond to legislative and regulatory changes. You will conduct in-depth research, prepare detailed analyses, and contribute to thought leadership that helps shape client strategies and internal policy positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of proposed and enacted federal tax legislation, IRS guidance, Treasury regulations, and relevant court cases.
  • Monitor developments from the IRS and Treasury, identifying potential impacts on various industries and client tax positions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate summaries, memoranda, and presentations outlining tax policy changes and their implications.
  • Collaborate with internal tax subject matter professionals to develop and refine policy interpretations and strategic advice for clients.
  • Assist in the development of thought leadership articles, client alerts, and internal training materials related to tax policy shifts.
  • Support client-facing teams by providing expert insights into complex tax policy questions and potential future changes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. federal tax laws and administrative practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Law, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax research, tax policy analysis, or a related legal/regulatory role
  • Strong understanding of U.S. federal tax law and administrative procedures
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth legal and tax research using databases such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, or Bloomberg Tax
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts clearly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Taxation (MST), Juris Doctor (JD), or CPA certification
  • Experience working directly with IRS guidance, Treasury regulations, and congressional legislative processes
  • Previous experience in a large accounting firm, legal practice, or government agency with a focus on tax policy
  • Familiarity with tax modeling and quantitative analysis tools
